  • Xabi Alonso is now 1/2 favourite to replace Arne Slot as Liverpool manager, via BetVictor
  • Liverpool's 3-2 loss to Bournemouth was their 7th league defeat of the season
  • Spanish media reports suggest Liverpool have already made contact with Alonso over the job

Slot Under Fire After Seventh League Defeat

Arne Slot's time at Liverpool appears to be on increasingly thin ice after his side slumped to a 3-2 defeat away at Bournemouth, a team who had won just once in their last 14 games.

Despite clawing their way back into the game at 2-2, Liverpool conceded a devastating 95th-minute goal from Amine Adli, continuing a worrying trend of late defensive collapses.

The result leaves them 14 points off the top of the table and outside the top four, with performances dipping and patience wearing thin.

According to Spanish outlet AS, the Liverpool board are taking "initial steps" toward replacing Slot with Xabi Alonso the firm favourite.

As reported by OLBG earlier this morning, Slot is now odds-on to be the next manager to leave the Premier League.

Who Could Replace Slot at Anfield?

Xabi Alonso has long been linked with the Liverpool hot seat and now finds himself odds-on to make a return to Anfield, this time in the dugout.

The Spaniard enjoyed huge success at Bayer Leverkusen, winning the Bundesliga, before an ill-fated spell at Real Madrid ended prematurely.

Despite reports of dressing room clashes, his coaching reputation remains strong and his deep Liverpool ties make him the standout favourite.

What the expert says...
The stars feel aligned for Alonso. The timing, the fan backing, and the odds all point in one direction. If Liverpool act fast, he could be in before February.

Why the Alonso Buzz Is Real

Spanish media sources, including AS, report that Liverpool have initiated discussions with Alonso's camp.

While no formal offer is on the table, the direction of travel appears clear especially with Slotโ€™s side struggling to create chances, failing to win key fixtures, and losing ground in the top-four race.

The Reds have only four points from their last five games and struggled even during their 13-match unbeaten run, which masked deeper tactical issues.
