I've spent over 20 years inside the betting industry. I'll guide you to avoid the hype, ignore the noise, and steer clear of the common pitfalls that catch out everyday punters.

  • Javokhir Sindarov is the heavy favourite with bet365 at 4/11 to win the 2026 Chess World Championship, with reigning champion Gukesh D priced at 2/1
  • Geneva has been confirmed as host city for the match, which runs from November 25 to December 15
  • At 20 years old, both players will contest the youngest World Championship match in chess history

Venue Confirmed For A Historic Match-Up

Chess's biggest event of the year now has a home, with Geneva confirmed as the host city for the 2026 World Championship Match.

UK betting sites have reacted to the announcement, with bet365 offering fresh odds on a contest that promises to be one of the most fascinating in recent memory, pitting reigning champion Gukesh D against challenger Javokhir Sindarov in a genuinely historic clash between two of the sport's brightest young stars.

Gukesh and Sindarov will both be 20 years old when the match begins, making this officially the youngest World Championship contest ever held.

Gukesh himself already holds the record as the youngest player to become World Champion, having claimed the title in Singapore back in December 2024 at just 18.

Why Geneva Was Chosen

FIDE's decision to award the match to Geneva came after a competitive bidding process, with India, the United States and Cyprus all having expressed strong interest in hosting.

FIDE Interim President Viswanathan Anand explained that the federation ultimately opted for neutral ground, describing Geneva as a city with a strong tradition of bringing nations and cultures together.

It's a fitting choice given the international nature of this year's match, bringing together a champion from India and a challenger from Uzbekistan on genuinely impartial territory.

Chess World Championship Odds

Chess World Championship 2026
OddsImplied Probability
Javokhir Sindarov4/1173.3%
Dommaraju Gukesh2/133.3%

A near 73% implied probability for Sindarov reflects just how strongly the market currently favours the challenger.

Why Sindarov Is Favoured Over The Champion

Sindarov's position as favourite, despite challenging for the crown rather than defending it, reflects the current form and standing of both players heading into the match.

Reports suggest Sindarov currently holds a live rating advantage of over 70 points compared to Gukesh, and with the champion having endured a difficult period since his Singapore triumph, the market clearly sees this as a genuine changing-of-the-guard opportunity rather than a routine title defence.

What the expert says...
Sindarov's form coming into this is exceptional, so I understand why he's favourite, but Gukesh has already proven once that he can handle these high-pressure title matches when it matters most.
