Hoddle & Ardiles Put Themselves Forward for Spurs Role

Glenn Hoddle has revealed that he and fellow Tottenham legend Ossie Ardiles actively offered to step in as managers during the club’s recent struggles.

Speaking on The Jeff Stelling Show, Hoddle confirmed that while there was no approach from Spurs, the pair felt compelled to put themselves forward following a worrying performance.

At a time when uncertainty surrounded the club, the former Spurs duo were willing to return in a bid to steady the situation and reconnect the club.

“We Would Go In There” - Legends Ready to Step Up

Hoddle made it clear that the offer was genuine and driven by concern for the club:

“Ossie and I made it clear that we would go in there if they wanted us to go in there.”

He even suggested the possibility of blending experience with youth:

“Probably with maybe a younger legend as well.”

The comments suggest a willingness from former players to help stabilise the club during a difficult period.

Forest Defeat Sparked Concern

The decision to offer themselves came after Tottenham’s heavy defeat to Nottingham Forest, a result that Hoddle felt exposed deeper issues.

“To lose three-nil at home was a bad sign.”

He described a club lacking cohesion and direction:

“It looked to me as if it needed some love… people to go in there that were going to unite the fans with the owners and with the team.”

For Hoddle and Ardiles, the situation demanded action, even if it meant stepping back into the spotlight themselves.

Despite the willingness of two of the club’s most iconic figures, Tottenham chose not to pursue the option.

“They said, well, we’re looking elsewhere. So it was fine.”

Spurs Loyalty Remains Strong

A lifelong Tottenham supporter, Hoddle reinforced his connection to the club and his desire to see them succeed:

“I’m a Spurs man, through and through, from eight years of age.”

He stressed that the priority now is stability and survival:

“As long as they’ve got the right man in… everyone’s got to unite and get together.”

Hoddle’s comments highlight the scale of the challenge facing Tottenham, with results and performances raising questions about the club’s direction.

“They’ve got a real task on their hands… I just want them to stay up.”
